Themed break nights: a year of Whatnot break ideas
A themed break night is a normal Whatnot show with a reason to tune in: a holiday, a big game, draft weekend, or a release day. The theme lives in your title, product, board, and pacing, never in the rules. Giveaways still run only through Whatnot's own giveaway tool, and breaks still carry no prizes, bounties, or randomizer wheels. Ideas for every season follow, plus a month by month calendar.
Written and fact-checked by an active Whatnot breaker on the BreakTemplate team. Updated November 1, 2026. How we check facts
1. What makes a themed night work
A theme that works has four parts: a dated reason to show up, a title that says it, product that fits the moment, and one visible change on screen. Price spots first with the break profit calculator so a slower themed night still covers the box.
2. Giveaways the Whatnot way
Every idea below uses Whatnot's built-in giveaway tool, which picks the winner at random and announces it in the show. As of November 2026 there are three types:
- Standard: any viewer in the show can enter while it runs.
- Follower-only: the same, limited to your followers.
- Buyer Appreciation Giveaway: thanks buyers who purchase after it is created, with free entry for US and Canadian users through a web form on the giveaway details page.
Whatnot's Giveaway Rules & Requirements and giveaway policies apply to every theme: say NO PURCHASE NECESSARY, in capitals, every time you promote a giveaway; post official rules in your show notes or listing; disclose the prize before it runs; and never require a purchase, a minimum spend, or a follow on another social platform to win. You may announce a giveaway for a set time or a sales goal. You pay the giveaway shipping, and every giveaway is completed in the same show.
3. What never to do
Whatnot's Card Breaks Policy does not relax for holidays. As of November 2026:
- No randomizer wheels, physical or digital, including wheels on third-party sites or in streaming software.
- No prizes inside a break, including randomly assigned bonus items.
- No paid bounties, guarantees, or bonus items tied to outcomes, such as an extra card if a team hits or wins.
- Cards only: no jerseys, helmets, or other memorabilia in a break.
- Open everything in the same show, and never sell spots off Whatnot, including as pre-sales.
4. Holiday, Black Friday and Cyber Monday (November to December)
Thanksgiving is Thursday, November 26, 2026, so Black Friday is November 27 and Cyber Monday is November 30. Christmas falls on a Friday.
- Theme ideas: a doorbuster night with lower spot prices on one box, a late-night Cyber Monday show, an ugly sweater night, or a twelve-show holiday countdown.
- Product picks: hobby boxes for the main breaks, a case for your biggest night, and retail blasters as giveaway prizes. Gift-ready singles fit your Profile Shop between shows.
- Show titles: "Black Friday Breaks: Hobby Box Random Teams," "Cyber Monday Late Night Rips," "Ugly Sweater Break Night."
- Giveaways: a follower-only giveaway on the hour, or a Buyer Appreciation Giveaway for a sealed blaster with the free entry form live. Never add a bonus pack for buying spots.
Orders still ship within two business days; for December, point buyers to carrier holiday cutoffs instead of promising delivery dates.
5. New Year
New Year's Eve is a Thursday and New Year's Day a Friday: two nights back to back.
- Theme ideas: a countdown show that ends near midnight, or a first rip of 2027 show.
- Product picks: the year's last big releases, plus the first new release you can get.
- Show titles: "Countdown to 2027 Breaks," "First Rip of 2027," "Last Box of the Year."
- Giveaways: one at a set time just before midnight, announced in the listing. Never spin a wheel for the midnight moment.
BreakTemplate's Neon Nights board theme fits the party look.
6. Super Bowl week (early February)
Super Bowl LXI is set for Sunday, February 14, 2027, at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, the first Super Bowl on Valentine's Day. Expect demand for the two finalists' teams.
- Theme ideas: nightly football breaks all week, a pick your team night priced by demand, and a Valentine's crossover built around red parallels.
- Product picks: football hobby boxes and cases, rookie-heavy products, and a retail box as the giveaway prize.
- Show titles: "Big Game Week Football Breaks," "Pick Your Team Before Kickoff," "Hearts and Hits Night."
- Giveaways: run them at set times during the week. Never tie a giveaway, bonus, or spot to the score or the winner.
The NFL guards its Super Bowl trademark, so many businesses advertise "the Big Game" instead, a cautious default for show titles too.
7. NFL Draft (late April)
The NFL says the 2027 Draft runs Thursday, April 29 through Saturday, May 1, 2027, in Washington, D.C., with the Draft Theater on the National Mall. Round 1 is Thursday, rounds 2 and 3 Friday, and rounds 4 through 7 Saturday.
- Theme ideas: a Round 1 night that rips between picks, a rookie-only night, and a college product night for the incoming class.
- Product picks: rookie-focused football products, college products featuring this year's prospects, and last season's rookie boxes.
- Show titles: "Draft Night Rookie Breaks," "Round 1 Rip Along," "Rookie Saturday."
- Giveaways: a set-time giveaway as Round 1 starts. Mock drafts in chat earn bragging rights, not prizes.
8. March Madness (mid-March to early April)
The men's and women's college basketball tournaments run from mid-March to early April.
- Theme ideas: bracket nights on the opening Thursday and Friday, an upset special where chat calls the next big hit, and a final weekend show.
- Product picks: college basketball products, plus NBA boxes for fans following both.
- Show titles: "Bracket Breaks: Opening Round," "Upset Night Rips," "Final Weekend Hoops."
- Giveaways: a follower-only giveaway at halftime of a big game. Never award a prize for the best bracket.
March Madness and Final Four are NCAA trademarks, so generic titles are the safer choice. BreakTemplate's Basketball board theme suits the month.
9. Release-day breaks
A major release day is a built-in event: collectors want to see the first boxes opened.
- Theme ideas: a first-look night that walks through the checklist as the first box opens, or a hobby versus retail night.
- Product picks: hobby boxes and a case of the new release, plus a retail box as the giveaway prize.
- Show titles: "Release Day: First Boxes Live," "Day One Case Break," "Hobby vs Retail Night."
- Giveaways: a standard giveaway for a sealed pack, opened on screen for the winner.
Have the product in hand before you list spots, since a break must be opened in one show and spots cannot be pre-sold off Whatnot. The Baseball and Basketball board themes match those releases.
10. Halloween (October)
Halloween is the easiest theme of the year, because the parallels already match the mood. Next year it falls on Sunday, October 31, 2027.
- Theme ideas: a costume show with the costume in your cover photo, and a Trick or Treat call between packs: chat calls base (trick) or a hit (treat) for bragging rights, never a prize.
- Product picks: orange, purple, and black parallels as the headline chase, plus base and minor hits as giveaway prizes.
- Show titles: "Haunted Hobby Box Night," "Costume Breaks," "Witching Hour Rips."
- Giveaways: a witching hour giveaway at 9 PM, announced ahead, with an orange or black parallel shown on camera.
- Set dressing: one orange or purple light behind you and a pumpkin in frame. Keep anything that rustles away from the microphone.
BreakTemplate's Halloween board theme adds a full moon, drifting fog, bats, and a ghost claim animation when a spot sells, one click in Break Control with no OBS changes.

12. The themed night checklist
- Post the show a week ahead with the theme in the title and cover photo.
- Put break rules and giveaway official rules in your show notes.
- Create giveaway listings before the show with each prize described.
- Switch the board look and test a spot before going live.
- Log costs afterward so you know whether the theme paid off.
For breakers: one board for every theme
BreakTemplate is a live break board: you type each buyer once in Break Control and the OBS overlay updates in about two seconds, with each break's revenue, logged costs, and profit kept together. As of November 2026, Pro board themes are Baseball, Basketball, Neon Nights, Halloween, and Camera, plus custom colors and a ticker that can carry your giveaway time and NO PURCHASE NECESSARY line. It does not import Whatnot sales or calculate fees.

Themed break night questions
What is a themed break night on Whatnot?
A regular Whatnot break show built around a dated event, such as Black Friday, the Super Bowl, the NFL Draft, or a release day. The theme changes the title, product, and board look. The rules stay the same: no prizes inside breaks, no paid bounties, and no randomizer wheels.
Can a Whatnot giveaway require a purchase?
No. Whatnot prohibits requiring a purchase or a minimum spend to win. Buyer Appreciation Giveaways are meant to thank buyers, but users in the US and Canada can enter free through a web form, and you must say NO PURCHASE NECESSARY, in capitals, every time you promote a giveaway.
When is the 2027 Super Bowl?
Super Bowl LXI is scheduled for Sunday, February 14, 2027, at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California. It is the first Super Bowl played on Valentine's Day.
When and where is the 2027 NFL Draft?
The NFL says the 2027 Draft runs Thursday, April 29 to Saturday, May 1, 2027, in Washington, D.C., with the Draft Theater on the National Mall in front of the Capitol.
Can a break add a bonus card for whoever has the winning team?
No. Whatnot's Card Breaks Policy bars paid bounties, guarantees, and bonus items tied to specific outcomes, and it bars prizes inside breaks. Celebrate the winning team on camera, and run any giveaway through Whatnot's giveaway tool.
Can you use a spinning wheel on a themed night?
No. As of November 2026, Whatnot does not allow randomizer wheels, physical or digital, including wheels on third-party websites or in streaming software. Whatnot's giveaway tool picks giveaway winners at random for you.
