How Whatnot fees actually work.

  • Commission: 8% of the item price for US sports cards and TCG at the Standard tier, under $15,000 in sales per four-week period. It does not apply to shipping or tax the buyer pays.
  • Tier rates: since September 21, 2026, total sales in a four-week period set your rate for the next one. US sports cards and TCG pay 7.75% from $15,000, 7.50% from $35,000, 7.25% from $50,000, 7.00% from $100,000, 6.75% from $250,000, and 6.50% from $500,000. Coins and money start at 4%. The preset menu fills these in.
  • Payment processing: 2.9% + $0.30 per order, applied to the full amount the buyer pays, shipping and tax included. The fixed $0.30 hurts most on small spots: 32 spots cost $9.60 in fixed fees alone.
  • High-value sales: Whatnot charges 0% commission on the portion of a single order above $1,500 in select categories, including sports singles. Sports breaks are excluded, processing still applies to the full order, and the promotion is limited-time, so check Seller Hub.

Worked example.

Example inputs, not market prices: a $40 single at the Standard tier, with $5.00 shipping and $3.20 sales tax paid by the buyer.

  • The buyer pays $40.00 + $5.00 + $3.20 = $48.20.
  • Commission: 8% × $40.00 = $3.20.
  • Processing: 2.9% × $48.20 = $1.40, plus $0.30 = $1.70.
  • Total fees: $4.90, an effective 12.2% of the item price.
  • You keep $35.10. The $5.00 covers the label and the $3.20 goes to the state.

With the $1,500 box ticked, a $2,000 single with $20.00 shipping and $160.00 tax pays 8% on the first $1,500 ($120.00) and 0% on the other $500. Processing is 2.9% of $2,180.00, or $63.22, plus $0.30, for $63.52. You keep $1,816.48, an effective 9.2%. Without the promotion, commission would be $160.00 and you would keep $1,776.48.

For a break, enter one order per spot: 32 orders at $7.00 with $80.00 of shipping and $15.68 of tax pay $17.92 commission and $18.87 processing, so you keep $187.21, an effective 16.4%. How much does Whatnot take per sale?

As of November 2026, at the Standard tier (under $15,000 in sales per four-week period), Whatnot takes an 8% commission on the item price for US sports cards and trading card games, plus payment processing of 2.9% of the full order, shipping and tax included, and $0.30 per order. On a $100 card with $5 shipping and $8 tax, that is $8.00 commission and $3.58 processing, so you keep $88.42.

Do Whatnot fees apply to shipping and tax?

Commission does not: Whatnot charges it on the item price only. Payment processing does: 2.9% + $0.30 applies to the full amount the buyer pays, shipping and tax included, which nudges the real rate above the headline numbers. That is why the calculator has separate shipping and tax fields.

Why do small spots lose a bigger percentage to fees?

The $0.30 fixed fee is charged per order regardless of size, so it weighs most on cheap spots. Before shipping and tax, a $10 spot pays about 13.9% all-in, while a $500 sale pays closer to 11%. Thirty-two $7 spots hand over $9.60 in fixed fees alone.

Is there really no commission on Whatnot sales over $1,500?

Only in some categories. As of November 2026, Whatnot charges 0% commission on the portion of a single order above $1,500 for sports singles, trading card games, coins and a few other categories, but sports breaks and surprise products are excluded. Are Whatnot fees lower for some categories or bigger sellers?

Yes, as of November 2026. Coins and money pay 4% at the Standard tier instead of 8%. And since September 21, 2026, your total sales in a four-week period set your tier for the next period: US sports cards and TCG drop to 7.75% from $15,000 and step down to 6.50% at $500,000 and up.
